Cultivist Art Trip to Belgium & The Netherlands

31 Mar 2022

Last month, The Cultivist took members on an art trip that encompassed four destinations in one long weekend. With a history as rich as the Low Countries – from the Flemish Primitives and Van Gogh to Luc Tuymans – it's hard to stay in one place. So, we made multiple stops in both Belgium and The Netherlands.

On day one, we started off in Brussels, with a visit to Kasper Bosmans' exhibition at Wiels Contemporary Art Centre. Following that, we visited Sanam Khatibi. The artist's studio is a unique garden-like space that ties in beautifully with her practice, which integrates fauna and flora in paintings, embroideries, tapestries, sculptures and installations.

The early evening brought a Champagne reception and private tour of Villa Empain, Fondation Boghossian and cocktails and dinner at the private collection of Felipe Dmab with the artists Kasper Bosmans and Sanam Khatibi in attendance.

The next day, the storied city of Antwerp welcomed us with a visit to a private collection and a studio visit to the renowned figurative painter Luc Tuymans. Lunch was enjoyed just outside of the city, at Kanaal, a converted-distillery turned cultural and residential complex by Axel Vervoordt.

Next, we headed to Amsterdam for two nights, where we enjoyed cocktails and a private tour of All Arts Initiative, the private collection of Natascha and Allard Jakobs followed by another lovely intimate dinner.

The next day brought us to another private collection and a studio visit with artist Rineke Dijkstra. In the evening, we were given the opportunity to visit one of the busiest museums in the world, the Van Gogh Museum after-hours, in blissful quiet. We concluded this incredible art-packed trip with a visit and lunch at the striking Museum Voorlinden in Wassenaar.
