Art-Filled Getaways: June Edition

06 May 2025 Art-Filled Getaways: June Edition

From contemporary reflections in the Greek islands to a rediscovered Montauk retreat and museum blockbusters along the Riviera, these are the art moments worth travelling for this June.

1. Andra Ursuța: Apocalypse Now And Then at the DESTE Foundation, Hydra | 24 June - 31 October

Each summer, the DESTE Foundation transforms Hydra’s former slaughterhouse into one of Europe’s most unique art spaces. This year, Andra Ursuța takes over the site with new bronze sculptures and mixed-media works inspired by the ruins of ancient civilisations. Her poetic, post-apocalyptic forms invite viewers into a world where digital remnants meet mythic pasts.

2. In a Bright Green Field at the Benaki Museum, Athens | 12 June - 27 July

A collaboration between the DESTE Foundation, the New Museum and the Benaki Museum, this group exhibition brings together 29 young artists from Greece, Cyprus and beyond. Their works, ranging from film and painting to performance, imagine new futures shaped by nature, technology and community.

3. Sean Scully: The Albee Barn, Montauk, The Parrish Museum | 11 May - 21 September

For the first time in over four decades, Sean Scully’s early Montauk paintings return to Long Island, just miles from where they were created. This intimate survey traces a turning point in the artist’s career, when colour, gesture and nature first became central to his language.

4. Exhibition Colors! Masterpieces From The Centre Pompidou, Grimaldi Forum, Monaco | 8 July - 31 August

From Matisse to Basquiat, Picasso to Delaunay, Monaco’s major summer show brings together over 100 works from some of modern art’s most celebrated names. Organised by the French Musée National d'Art Moderne, it’s one of the season’s blockbuster highlights on the Riviera.

5. Sophie Calle at Château La Coste, Provence | 15 June - 31 August

In the tranquil hills of Provence, Sophie Calle presents À l'Affût in the Richard Rogers Gallery at Château La Coste. Shifting between themes of desire and pursuit, the project weaves together photography and text with the artist’s signature blend of mystery and intimacy.
