02 Sep 2025 5 Must-Sees During Art Basel Paris

As Paris prepares to welcome Art Basel this October, the city’s museums and galleries are presenting an outstanding season of exhibitions. From pioneering figures of modern art to today’s most celebrated contemporary voices, here are the highlights not to miss:

1. Jeffrey Gibson: This Is Dedicated to the One I Love at Hauser & Wirth, 20 October – 20 December 2025

Jeffrey Gibson’s first solo exhibition in France celebrates the breadth of his practice, from large and intimate paintings to beaded panels, cloaks, and his signature punching bags. The show also debuts a new body of free-standing ceramic head sculptures, highlighting the artist’s inventive use of material and form.

2. Minimal at Bourse de Commerce, 8 October 2025 – 19 January 2026

Drawing on the Pinault Collection in dialogue with other prestigious collections, this exhibition explores the diversity of Minimalism since the 1960s. It charts how a generation of artists embraced radical simplicity to redefine the possibilities of art.

3. Berthe Weill. Art Dealer of the Parisian Avant-Garde at Musée de l’Orangerie, 8 October 2025 – 26 January 2026

This landmark exhibition shines a light on the pioneering gallerist Berthe Weill (1865–1951), who championed young painters at the start of their careers. Her Paris gallery was the first to exhibit artists such as Picasso, Matisse, Chagall, and Modigliani, making her a pivotal but often overlooked figure in modern art history.

4. Gerhard Richter at Fondation Louis Vuitton, 17 October 2025 – 2 March 2026

The Fondation Louis Vuitton dedicates its entire space to Gerhard Richter in an expansive retrospective of 270 works spanning over six decades. From early oil paintings to sculptures, drawings, photographs, and recent works, this is the most comprehensive presentation of Richter’s career ever staged.

5. Exposition Générale at Fondation Cartier, 25 October 2025 – 23 August 2026

Marking the inauguration of its new home at Place du Palais-Royal, Fondation Cartier presents forty years of contemporary art from its collection. Conceived as an “alternative encyclopedia,” the exhibition reflects the institution’s history while opening new perspectives on exhibition-making today.
