Art Basel Switzerland 20211 Sept 2021
The city of Basel welcomes back visitors to experience over 200 of the world’s leading galleries for Art Basel, Switzerland 2021. Art Basel week runs from 20 September - 26 September with lots of fabulous programming to attend!
Alongside the star of the week, Art Basel, we also recommend experiencing Unlimited, an exhibition platform at the fair for massively scaled works, including sculpture, painting, video projections, installations and live performances.
Right behind the entrance to Art Basel Unlimited is LISTE; a fair that features younger artists and galleries compared to what you may find at Art Basel. It’s now an institution in its own right, running for over 20 years.
If you want to continue exploring and discovering new artists and eclectic international galleries, we recommend visiting VOLTA Basel, a happy medium between Art Basel and LISTE.
Lovers of photography should be sure not to miss Photo Basel, Switzerland’s only art fair dedicated to photography. Also, be sure to check out Design Miami/Basel, a wondrous exhibition of all things furniture and design.
We are hosting a private tour of three important works in Art Basel’s Parcours led by curator Samuel Leuenberger. The event will take place on Wednesday 22 September from 4pm - 6pm, in collaboration with UBS. The tour is followed by cocktails and light eats at nearby L’Atelier. Please note, capacity is very limited for this event so it will be strictly members only. We would also like to highlight an incredible event by one of our partners: Michele Lamy will perform with an intervention from Ryoji Ikeda on Tuesday 21 September from 10pm - 1am. The performance is in honor of Ryoji’s work data-verse 3 in Unlimited, presented by Almine Rech and Commissioned by Audemars Piguet Contemporary and will take place at Elisabethenkirche.
When you’re not exploring the various art fairs, we recommend visiting Fondation Beyeler and Kunsthalle Basel to continue seeing incredible art. Also be sure not to miss Kara Walker's, A Black Hole Is Everything a Star Longs to Be at Kunstmuseum Basel, Neubau.
Beyond art, Basel is an incredible city with tons to offer. We recommend taking a dip in the Rhine, a popular pastime for locals and visitors alike. And be certain to set aside time to have a drink in the garden of the Art Club at Restaurant Kunsthalle, the official bar of Art Basel.
